Domestic abuse shelter also no longer accepting homemade food, opened store-bought food, or used clothing, shoes and accessories
DANVILLE, Ind. (Mar. 12) – Sheltering Wings has decided to cancel its Men IN Action READ volunteer initiative scheduled for March 19 in response to coronavirus concerns. More than 440 male volunteers had planned to visit schools throughout Hendricks County to read aloud as role models for today’s youth.
“The volunteers in our Men IN Action READ program are as concerned about children’s health and safety as we are,” said Cassie Mecklenburg, executive director. “We didn’t want to risk anyone’s health so we decided to cancel the event.”
Sheltering Wings is a domestic abuse shelter in Hendricks County. The annual one-day Men IN Action READ event is sponsored by Duke Energy, Hendricks Regional Health, Etica Group and Elon Books.
The shelter is taking numerous precautions to safeguard against the spread of the virus. The shelter can no longer accept homemade food that is left over, opened store-bought food, or used clothing, shoes and accessories.
