Entering into a Season of Gratitude

When the leaves start to change and the weather gets a little chilly, I always craved a nice warm cup of apple cider – and I just got some from Beasley’s Orchard! The spiced apples are a flavor I always associate with Thanksgiving, a time of the year when we celebrate what we’re thankful for and give glory to God for His goodness. But when expressing my gratitude, I’m often guilty of forgetting some of those basic parts of my life that I take for granted. I’ve always had a roof over my head, clothes to wear and food to eat. And I’ve never had to fear for my safety or my family’s safety. I’ve always been able to celebrate Thanksgiving with my friends and family.

But when survivors come to our facility, the things that I sometimes take for granted are the things that they longed for and pray for. A roof over their head, clothes to wear, food to eat, but most of all, they long for the day when they don’t have to worry about their safety or their children’s safety.

Gratitude allows us to focus on the positive aspects of our lives and thank God for His provision. So, as we enter this month of gratitude and thanksgiving, don’t forget to give thanks for the “ordinary” blessings in your life. Give things for a safe home and a roof over your head, and pray that the next year our survivors will be able to give thanks for those “common” blessings as well.
