“One cannot plan for the unexpected.” – Aaron Klug

As men, most of us want to thrive in order and structure. When that is disrupted, more times than not, we panic and try to ‘fix’ things as best as we can. If there is something that I have learned since the end of 2019, it’s that trying to plan for all those things that are unexpected in life will, in turn, dilute the potential that they can bring.

A few days ago, I was given the opportunity to listen to my friends Brian Nugent and Remeil Pitamber speak about how they were able to reconnect after years apart. That unexpected and unplanned moment in life, most would call a ‘God Moment’, couldn’t have been planned beforehand. Seriously, think about it. If they tried to force the relationship that they have now, do you think they would have the mentor/mentee relationship they have?

Chaos and disorder will always be in our lives. We will always have to make choices on the fly and hope for the best. That is called life. Sometimes we will make the right choices, and sometimes we won’t.

Guess what?  That’s ok.  We aren’t perfect.

There is only one that was perfect, and it ain’t me… or you. What we CAN do, though, is make sure that we are surrounded by other men that want to support each other, pray over each other, hold each other accountable, teach each other, and be willing to be vulnerable with one other.

Here is my challenge to every man, and person, reading this.  Once a week for the next month, call – don’t text – someone and tell them that you are here for them. Don’t over-complicate things, just a simple phone call. You never know when someone might need you, and all you have to do is let them know the door is open.
