This last weekend I was traveling home after visiting my in-laws in Ohio and I think I experienced all four seasons in one drive!  It started cold with blue skies, turned to snow with little visibility, followed by a good steady rain.  By the time we got home, the sun was shining! But not for long.

You are entering the time of year where the weather and our schedules sometimes become erratic and unpredictable.  As you come upon the craziness of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the New Year, may you be reminded of the things that remain constant and grounding in these seasons.

  • Family, given and chosen, who have been creative in how they cared for you these last 2 years.
  • The eagerness of your community stepped up to the challenge and care for one another when needs grew and changed.
  • You and your fellow ministers that form the witness of the Church in partnerships and action to stand beside the abused and let them know it doesn’t have to be this way.
  • And the underlying constant that grounds you, the faithfulness of God’s presence as he walks with you to fulfill his good work in this world.

As you prepare and enter into this season, we here at the shelter are praying for you, your families, and your congregations. The work of Sheltering Wings is not possible without your support and we want you to know that we support you too! May you know the restoring and transforming love of Jesus in a surprising and sustaining way this holiday season.

Grace and peace,

P.S: Has your team been trained? You and your team are often the first responders to a victim of domestic abuse. We want to help you identify the signs of abuse and have a plan to guide victims in how to seek support and safety. Our goal is to conduct 15 more trainings by the end of the year. We can do it over lunch or make an afternoon out of it. Sign up and get more information here.

P.P.S: Remember our residents this Christmas season! There are many ways to support our residents and their families this Christmas Season. From a Christmas Drive of items on our wish list, to a gift wrapping party, to an additional financial gift, we can make this Christmas special with your help!
