Don’t you love the sounds of summer?! This past weekend was filled with these sounds. From the playful screams of neighbor children playing in the sprinkler to the belly laughs heard from a cookout across the street. I don’t know about you, but these sounds of joy bring a smile to my face as I am reminded of the safety and stability I enjoy on a daily basis.
I also have the joy of hearing these same sounds of summer here at the shelter. From the sounds of children playing free from concern or the sound of residents connecting in the kitchen, Sheltering Wings is making these moments of joy free from fear possible.
This summer we are asking that you help continue to make these moments possible with Christmas in July. There are opportunities to “Give. Gather. Share.”
Give: Will your congregation contribute financially as generous partners have offered to match a set amount of gifts this month.
Gather: Will you host a wish list drive to gather our most commonly needed items for our families? Click here to view this summer’s wish list items and for more information.
Share: Soon we will have a promotional toolkit available to spread the word and to help reach those in our community who need shelter or services. We’re here to help with this one. Please call me to talk about ideas for sharing domestic violence prevention and education with your congregation.
As you enjoy the joys of this summer season how can you give, gather, and share the hope of a safe roof over a families head and a path towards a more safe, stable and independent future?
Have a thought or idea of how your community can help this summer? Let me know! I’m ready to partner with you to make a difference in the lives of survivors!
Grace and peace,
P.S. All summer we’re working to let victims of abuse and their families know, IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY. Connect with resources and ways to help at freedomideserve.org. Here’s a look at the announcement of this campaign from our Premier Event last Friday, June 11.
Christmas in July
Your overwhelming support during the holiday season takes us all the way to summer. Those donations are a lifeline for survivors. Christmas in July is a way to continue the cheer through the second half of the year.
Volunteer Opportunities
If you have a talent, interest or skill and if you are passionate about our mission to break the cycle of domestic abuse, there’s a place for you to volunteer at Sheltering Wings.
