Valentine’s Day is a little too sweet and sentimental for my taste. I love Independence Day, but we don’t need fireworks after July 4. Halloween is fun but I get a little tired of the spectacle. I honor and celebrate Jesus 12 months of the year, but I can only handle Christmas music for a couple of weeks.

But, I never tire of Thanksgiving. Gratitude isn’t seasonal, and Thanksgiving gives us a reason to display it.

This Thanksgiving, I’m grateful we have been able to start renovations to the second floor of our facility so we can house male victims of domestic abuse and their children. People like you are stepping up to match the United Way of Central Indiana’s generosity. They funded half the cost of the expansion and, due to your generosity and the generosity of many other friends in our community, we are well on our way to reaching our goal to cover the cost.

We share many stories of women and children who have experienced the worst of humanity. Now we’re telling more stories that highlight men who are victims and the unique challenges they face in our society.

We also get to see individuals who are extraordinarily grateful for the chance they’ve received at Sheltering Wings. With your help, they are reminded of their value and potential to build safe, stable and independent lives.

I’m forever grateful. For you. For our staff. For our families. And most of all, for God, who is the Owner and Sustainer of our Shelter. Thank you for partnering with us. I hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving celebration as much as I will and that you never tire of being grateful.
