DANVILLE, Ind. – A Hendricks County domestic abuse shelter plans to celebrate its 18th anniversary by prompting a wave of kindness. On January 12, 2020, the nonprofit is asking the public to “Pay It Forward” by performing a random act of kindness, then sharing it on social media with the hashtag #PayItForward.
“So many Sheltering Wings residents leave here with such a sense of joy that they become key contributors to their communities or just exceptionally kind and understanding people,” said Cassie Mecklenburg, executive director. “We hope everyone will help us honor them on our 18th anniversary by sharing a little kindness with others.”
Once you’ve performed your own random act, you can encourage others to join you:
- Share what you’ve done on social media with the message, “I’m celebrating Sheltering Wings’ 18th anniversary by paying it forward. Help me keep the kindness going! #PayItForward”
- Visit shelteringwings.org/pay-it-forward for coupons you can use to encourage the recipients of your kindness to pay it forward, too.
“Domestic abuse” means someone close to you — a spouse, a significant other, a family member or someone you’re dating — uses intimidating or hurtful actions to control you. These may be physical, sexual, digital, emotional, verbal, spiritual or financial, or a combination. If you are being abused (or even if you’re not sure), call the Sheltering Wings anonymous helpline 24/7 at (317) 745-1496.
