On my way out of the Center a few weeks ago, I stumbled into Captain Evan Love, a member of the Sheltering Wings Board and Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department.
He was surrounded by a group of kids clutching giant Slurpee’s and packages of candy.
Click to hear the story of how Evan found these children in a chaotic, dangerous situation and provided them with a bit of normalcy and hope.
Did you know that most of the time more children call Sheltering Wings home than adults? As I write this, 63 people have found safety within these walls. 32 of them are children. They range in age from newborn to high school.
Because of your support, Sheltering Wings has an entire team of staff and volunteers to support our children. I hate to use the word normalcy because there is nothing normal about domestic violence.
What Evan did that morning – and what we try to do every day – is make these children feel safe and loved and maybe a little bit like any other child.
YOU make that possible. Thank you.
Today, I invite you to become even more personally involved with the children at Sheltering Wings. They truly are amazing kiddos who are living through a devastating experience.
You could become a volunteer with our Children’s program.
You can donate children’s supplies. We have a lot of little ones right now. We love having them, but they really do need a lot of things.
And truly most importantly, please pray for these children. Pray for healing, for safety, for an end to the violence they lived through.
Our wish is that these kids get the support and skills they need to become stable, independent adults who live a life free from abuse.
I know that’s your wish, too. Together, we can make that possible.
Thank you for joining us in this conversation.
With gratitude,
