The Dictionary describes the word experience as follows: “A direct observation of or participation in events as a basis of knowledge”.

When I was young I had the good fortune of having parents that wanted their children to experience many different areas of pursuit. Their goal was to give us a taste of different things so that we could become responsible adults and make our own choices. Many times we were reluctant to participate but we did, sometimes not by choice. The point is that as we grew in these experiences and they helped us become decision-makers in our own lives and our own families.

Many of the experiences sound so simple now. The value of taking children to an actual library and leaving the cellphone in the pocket, attending Church or Sunday school, or just tossing a ball back and forth in the yard. As leaders, we must go out and engage our youth, and be role models to those that might not have these wonderful opportunities.

Be a positive influence in someone’s life today. Experience is still the best teacher.

Have a great summer everyone.
