Sheltering Wings offers ‘Awareness in Action, Prevention in Practice’ events during National Domestic Violence Awareness & Prevention Month

DANVILLE – When someone escapes domestic abuse, they face starting most of their life over again – with little help but great determination. Sheltering Wings always celebrates this courage, but especially during national Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Month. October brings events and opportunities to applaud these women and men and show their community cares.

“This year, Sheltering Wings’ efforts to educate people about domestic abuse goes further than ever,” said Melissa Echerd, prevention and education officer.

“We made this season’s motto ‘Awareness in Action, Prevention in Practice’ because the community is ready to move beyond just knowing about domestic violence to taking actions to prevent it,” Echerd said. “In our trainings and presentations, we’ve really emphasized that domestic abuse can be eliminated.”
