Planned Giving

Planned giving simply means planning for a future or legacy gift to a charity like Sheltering Wings. It can take many forms. Below are some of the most common.

A gift through your Will, or a bequest, is one of the most common planned gifts. Your gift may be a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder after all other provisions are met.

As you prepare your documents, the following language may be helpful for your Will and/or Trust: “I give to Sheltering Wings, a nonprofit corporation currently located at PO Box 92, Danville, IN 46122, or its successor thereto, _________ [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property] for its unrestricted charitable use and purpose.”

If you’re planning to make such a gift, please contact Paige Vanzo at [email protected] or 317-386-5049. We can speak to you about how you’d like your gift to be used and create a gift agreement form to add to your planning documents and personal files. Notifying us of your plans will enable us to plan for the use of your future gift. However, if you prefer to remain anonymous, we will keep your name and gift in strict confidence.

You can designate a charity as the beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), Trust, Life insurance or other investment accounts and assets. You can get needed forms from your employer, plan administrator, or financial services firm. Once the paperwork is completed, the gift will pass directly to the organization and can avoid probate.
