One of the best parts of Christmas, for me, is the general spirit of goodwill that spreads throughout the community each December. A spirit of love and generosity. A spirit of giving and caring for others.
Every year, I vow to carry that spirit with me throughout the year. But, undoubtedly, the spirit fades as the months pass.
Sheltering Wings gratefully receives a bounty of donations each holiday season. Your gifts carry us into the new year with stocked shelves and full pantries. But as the months pass, and people get busy with end-of-school activities, summer vacations and just general life commitments, donations slow and shelves empty.
Sheltering Wings’ Christmas in July celebration honors the Christmas spirit in the middle of summer – and offers the perfect time for you, our generous community, to “Give. Gather. Share.”
Give. You and other like-minded people power Sheltering Wings by giving. Christmas in July is the perfect time to make a monetary donation. Thanks to a gift from Hendricks Regional Health and another generous donor, all gifts will be matched $1 for $1 through July 31. Your gift will be doubled!
Gather. Your donations of food and supplies are a blessing anytime but are especially welcome in July to replenish our shelves. When your generosity provides necessities – such as food, toiletries and other essentials – residents fleeing domestic abuse can focus on safety and recovery.
You can find a list of priority needs on the Christmas in July printable wish list or searchable wish list on Amazon. Click here to find our wish lists!
Share. You sharing the Sheltering Wings mission with friends, family and the community is the third pillar of Christmas in July. You can help us reach new volunteers, new donors – and most importantly – people who desperately need our services.
Sheltering Wings feels different this month. It’s hot outside, but the Christmas spirit flows through our hallways. A spirit of giving and goodwill grows with every Christmas in July gift.
Our gratitude also grows. With every dollar matched and every box of food added to our shelves, a spirit of love and goodwill comforts our vulnerable residents. Helping them heal. Helping them on their path to stability and independence.
It’s the Christmas spirit – even in the hot July summer days. Won’t you join us for this Christmas in July?
