2021 Premier Event

It’s spring! I am loving this weather and sunshine! I also love to watch the trees and flowers bloom… especially the tulips, my favorite flower. While it’s beautiful when it blooms, I’m just as intrigued by the tulip’s life cycle. You plant them deep into the ground 6 months before you ever expect to see them. Meanwhile, under the earth roots start growing and the bulb you planted puts all its energy into pushing new life through the surface, finally creating the beautiful blooms we know as tulips.
It’s very much akin to how we work with people here at Sheltering Wings. So much happens beneath the surface as they work on their skills, search for jobs, finish school, find a place to live … and all the other roots they establish that will turn into their colorful life.
When they (our families here) bloom, it’s such a rewarding moment for them and for us.
Getting here to find emergency and safe housing is just the start of their growth. Here, men, women and children build stable and independent lives, free from abuse. Much as a tulip bulb multiplies, many pay it forward by supporting others and that is a really neat process to watch unfold. It’s so neat to walk through our kitchen and hear residents sharing about their lives, supporting one another and spurring one another on.
So, thank you. Thank you for supporting the “tulips” at Sheltering Wings.
