Get Creative to Win the Sheltering Wings Christmas in July Wish List Competition

Your group can social distance and still help families who need everyday supplies

DANVILLE, Ind. (Jul. 13, 2020) – If you’ve been saving large packages of toilet paper, now is a great time to build a contest-winning donation around them as part of the Sheltering Wings Christmas in July Wish List competition. Why? Because the group whose donations measure the largest in cubic feet will win a (safe) midsummer visit from Santa. And yes, you can do it while social distancing.

“We go through 20 rolls of toilet paper every day, so you can imagine our residents’ use of other personal-care items we all take for granted every day: diapers, facial cleanser, men’s and women’s razors and a long list you can find on our website,” said Executive Director Cassie Mecklenburg.

She said social distancing doesn’t slow down the need or people’s desire to help.

“We created this contest to encourage people to collect items as a group,” Mecklenburg said. “An office, church, neighborhood association, or Kiwanis Club that’s meeting on Zoom can coordinate a convenient place for collecting items safely. Or they could decide what to buy from the Wish List on Amazon, collect funds through Venmo or another pay app, and then place an order for free automatic delivery.”

If members of a group order items individually, Mecklenburg said they should note their group name with their order.

“2020 has been pretty grim so far, so an unexpected visit from a Hawaiian-shirt-clad Santa could really bring smiles to a lot of faces.”

For safety, only brand-new items still in their packaging can be accepted. You can view the Wish List at shelteringwings.org/christmas-in-july. To be eligible, donations must be received by July 31.

Items can be dropped off at Sheltering Wings or at the Hendricks Regional Health YMCA at 301 Satori Parkway in Avon. For questions, call Sheltering Wings at (317) 386-5056.

Christmas in July is presented by Hendricks Regional Health.
