Insider - From the Director

I Love This Place!

By April 15, 2014 No Comments

Dear friends,

Last week I had a Post-It note in my mailbox from one of our child residents. It simply said, “I love this place!” This small, yet meaningful affirmation was a reminder that our efforts at Sheltering Wings are making a significant impact on our women and children.

Within a few days of receiving the note we learned the good news that this family will be moving to their own apartment this month. They will transition to a safe and independent life. And, while we will miss seeing their faces in the Shelter, we could not be more excited for them! This is what they have been working towards.

Mom has been working hard to find and hold a job to ensure that she and her children can be self-sufficient. She has attended the budgeting classes to learn to balance her check book and budget accordingly to plan for monthly expenses. She has regularly attended our Embracing Empowerment classes to learn about developing healthy relationships, breaking the cycle of abuse, how abuse affects her children, and many other topics that lead to healing and restoration. Her diligence has helped her learn to take on more responsibility and regain control of her life, learning to function outside of an abusive environment.

Lives are changing! Similar stories could be told repeatedly through the residents at Sheltering Wings. They are working hard to build safe, secure, self-sufficient, hope-filled lives. Through our community’s continued partnerships, we are able to come alongside our residents through emergency crisis intervention, life skills programs, children’s programs , and outreach and education.

We celebrate milestones with our residents, whether it be passing their GED, reaching a personal goal indicating financial stability, or moving on to their own residence. And, we celebrate with you! Your support through financial giving, staying up-to-date through social media, volunteering, or helping us spread the word contributes to helping the women on their journey.

In celebration,

Cassie Martin Signature
