Donor Advised Funds

A Donor Advised Fund (DAF) is an account that is set up especially for giving. An individual can contribute cash, stocks, or other assets into the fund and receive a tax deduction. Those funds are invested for tax-free growth and the individual can recommend donations (grants) to charities of their choice over time.

If you would like to give through your donor advised fund, please contact your fund manager to recommend a grant from your DAF to Sheltering Wings.

You’ll need to provide your fund manager with our mailing address, legal name, and TIN – located at the top of this page.

Please let us know you’ve sent a donation as the fund does not always note who it’s from.  We’ll watch for your gift and notify you when it arrives. Please contact Donita at (317) 386-5062 or email [email protected].

Donate Stock

Sheltering Wings can accept direct transfers of stock. Contact your broker if you’d like to initiate a stock donation. We will give you the brokerage account information you’ll need. Please contact Donita at (317) 386-5062 or email [email protected].

You may also need our mailing address, legal name, and TIN – located at the top of this page.

Nothing in this communication is meant to serve as tax or legal advice. Please contact your advisors to discuss what’s right for you.

When you notify your broker, let them know you want to donate your stock to the charity of your choice and give them the charity’s information.

  • Complete the necessary forms and authorizations.
  • Notify the charity that a gift is coming and share how you’d like to be recognized.
  • Report the donation: When you file your taxes, you’ll need to report the donation on IRS Form 8283.
  • Follow up: Check with the charity to confirm they received the donation.

Qualified charitable distributions (QCDs)

IRA owners who are 70.5 years or older can make tax-free gifts of up to $100,000 to a charity like Sheltering Wings. To make a QCD, contact your IRA’s custodian to learn more. You may also need our mailing address, legal name and TIN – located at the top of this page.
