I’m a girl dad and have loved every minute of it. Ok, maybe some of the teenage years can be a challenge, but still the greatest pleasure of my life is being a dad. I tried to set examples for them early on like what they should look for in a boy someday far, far, far away (wishful thinking). One part of my plan was to lead by example. They saw how I treated their mommy and how much I cherish her as both a partner and friend. They saw how I treated my mom and cherish her as a mentor in my faith and friend. I took them on daddy-daughter dates and had conversations about life, school, friendships, boys and faith in Jesus.
With all of that in mind, I didn’t have the ability to influence the boys that God had picked out for my two girls. I prayed nightly that they would be good men; honest, humble, hardworking and fun. I prayed that they would cherish my girls like Christ, the way I did. Most of all, I prayed for men of faith with the ability to be the head of the household as God commands. I prayed for them to be good husbands and, if the opportunity arises, a good daddy. Every night I would pray for my girls and then the boys growing into the man God called them to be.
Did it work? I have two wonderful Son-in-laws that I consider friends and brothers in Christ. Start praying now!
