My family is in that season of life where we are searching for the college or university my son will attend to continue his education. We have taken him to many college visits and seen many different campuses. My son sometimes states that he wants to be an engineer, other times a soldier, and other times mentions he may want to learn a trade. He seems conflicted and not yet sure what he wants to do. One day he mentioned to me, ” I don’t know what my purpose is yet.”
We discussed that his future occupation isn’t necessarily his purpose in life. Men often find their purpose in their jobs, hobbies, or even their possessions. In our discussion about purpose, we discussed what a man in action is and his purpose. A man of action is a lot of things that I did not have time, at the moment, to go into great detail about with him.
I simply told my son where he would find purpose. Your purpose lies within your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Your purpose is to love God with all of your heart and show that same love he offers to us to others in this world. That’s your purpose.
If you don’t know yet what your exact purpose is – or you don’t know exactly how to be a man in action – start with that. Love God and others and you won’t go wrong. Your purpose as a man in action will come easier after that.
