Men IN Action, Sheltering Wings, and YOU!

You probably already know what Men IN Action is. But I want to take a minute to share more about the “why” behind Men IN Action and the connection to Sheltering Wings.

In 2017, Sheltering Wings was working to grow its Prevention and Education Program to reach more youth and families in the community.  This decision was made because the Center for Disease Control (CDC) stated that one way to prevent abuse is to engage influential adults and peers, specifically men and boys, as allies in prevention.  This encourages men and boys to support victims and speaking out. And it promotes social norms that reduce the risk of intimate partner violence.  Out of this, Men IN Action was created!

This group was created to encourage and support men who are already doing great things in the community.  It also helps them be intentional in the ways they lead and prevent domestic abuse.

Check out Men IN Action’s mission statement: Men (that’s you) play a vital role in cultivating healthy relationships in our community. Men IN Action is a group of engaged and informed men who are impacting the community by developing positive social behaviors. Our mission is to end all forms of violence, including domestic violence and teen dating abuse. We work to encourage and build one another up, hold one another accountable, challenge the status quo, and navigate life by being positive role models for our youth and each other.
