The beginning of a new year brings with it a lot of possibilities. We often start with so many great goals in mind, and unfortunately, a few weeks or months into the year, we have already gone back to eating a tub of ice cream instead of spinach and sitting on a couch instead of going to the gym. It isn’t our fault; the ice cream is good, and the couch is soft!
As I start the new year I have goals, but the main thing is I want my heart to be good! This means I want my life not to be shaken by all the wild and crazy things that can happen during the year.
I hope everything will go smoothly every year, but there will always be something. So, I want my heart to be prepared for it.
To have a prepared heart means you need to make sure your heart is seeking the right things.
Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
I love what Jesus is saying here. What are you after in this life? As men, we can get lost before we even start because we seek the wrong things: more money, a better job, or abs. None of this is bad, but it isn’t what will make our hearts right. Our hearts will be right when we seek God’s will. To seek God’s will in our lives brings peace.
What are you seeking this year? My prayer for you and me is that we seek God in all things as we start the new year. Let us be a community of men who walk with grace, peace, and love toward all people at all times.
